On the Pollen Cytology of Various Horticultural Plants in Korea

Abstract
96 families comprising 284 genera of seed-plant grown in Korea (either in the fields or greenhouses) were analysed cytologically their nucleate types. Approximately two third of them were found to be binucleate and the others trinucleate types.
Nucleate type was generally consistent with a particular family, although the two different types were found in the same family occasionally. In one case, interestingly enough, both bi-and trinucleate pollen were observed when collected from the same flower of the same individual plant.
Binucleate pollen usually germinated well in vitro culture of artificial media including 10% sucrose and 100 ppm boric acid in distilled water, whereas trinucleate pollen did not as much. There were, however, some exceptions to this behavior.
